16 Canceled TV Shows We Wish Could Go On Forever

While we love to go on about the newest shows to watch here at The Everygirl, it’s time to call attention to something much more serious: canceled TV shows. It seems like everywhere I look a favorite show has called it quits on me, whether it’s stopped at a satisfying and complete ending or not. As I dug deeper, I realized that we’ve recently seen or are approaching the end of some shows we’ve been watching for years. As the list grows, so does my heartache.

Some of these shows have been canceled without warning, and some have announced that the season released this year will be the final one. I don’t know if that makes it better or worse, although I guess we might get a more conclusive ending from those shows. So, with tissue in hand, here are all of the recently canceled TV shows we’re going to miss—including where you can stream them on repeat.

1. Stranger Things

I knew this one was coming, and I’m truly sad to see it go. The Stranger Things series took on a life of its own, amassing an incredible following and goes down as some of the best Netflix TV show writing we have ever seen. Despite its record-breaking beginnings, a lot of the intitial hype has disappeared as each season has taken longer and longer to release (as in years…we’re tired). The sci-fi horror show will wrap with its fifth and final season, airing sometime later this year (we don’t know the exact release date yet).

2. Cobra Kai

Based on the beloved movie The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai released its sixth and final season this year. The drama and emotions these episodes have caused me…it’s sad to say goodbye, but it’s probably better for my blood pressure. Unfortunately, the decision to split the 6th season into three parts caused a major drop in viewership, especially for the final part. The whole season dropped over a period of seven months, meaning many viewers probably moved on to other shows in the meantime.

3. The Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid’s Tale will conclude after this final sixth season, and I’m actually okay with it. The plot of this story is coming to its natural close, and I think the conclusion of this season will (hopefully) wrap up everything in a satisfying yet realistic way. Fans are sad about the conclusion of the series, but won’t be for long! Hulu has confirmed that a spinoff show is already in production, based on the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale novel, The Testaments, by Margaret Atwood.

4. Kaos

This cancellation is the one I am most upset about, because this show is so entertaining to me! After just one season, Netflix has canceled Kaos due to low viewership and high production costs. My dear Jeff Goldblum, I’m truly going to miss you playing an all-powerful idiotic god.

5. Outer Banks

I’m honestly not surprised that Outer Banks is coming to an end. Each treasure hunt has led the group further from home, and we’re ready to see them back in the OBX. The initial draw to the show was watching the coastal lifestyle; seasons later, they have completely strayed from the plot we loved. These final episodes are teased to bring the Pogues back home and hopefully round out the series with a strong ending.

6. The Sex Lives of College Girls

Don’t even get me started on how upset I am about this one. UGH. The cancellation of this show was entirely shocking, and even showrunners were left in the dark about it. Although the season 3 finale ended on a positive note, there are so many storylines left unresolved, and I’m truly hoping this one will get picked up by someone else to continue. But for now, it’s a teary goodbye.

7. Squid Game

Netflix’s viral show Squid Game has announced that the third season, which is set to release in late June, will be the final one. We’re sad to see it go, but we all know that the story is coming to its necessary and timely end (because there’s nothing worse than a show going on for too long). Since season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger, I’m just hoping this final season will wrap up with a satisfying end to the horrific games.

8. The Summer I Turned Pretty

Our beloved love triangle is coming to a close with its third and final season this July. Showrunner and author of the adapted books, Jenny Han, said in an interview, “three books, three seasons”, so I can’t be too mad about the show coming to its natural end. Although I’ll miss the summer show, I’m ready to finally get some closure. Not to mention, all my fellow Conrad girlies are really going through it (Bonrad for the win, please).

9. You

Stream on Netflix

Joe Goldberg has finally met his end (like, for real for real this time), with the conclusion of the fifth and final season released on Netflix. Although I loved watching the twisted mind of Joe and his devious life, I think by season five, we had gotten to know the You formula all too well, and it was time for its natural ending.

10. The Boys

The iconic superhero show The Boys is slated to release its fifth and final season in 2026. I think we all saw this coming, as many of the character storylines are coming to their natural conclusions. The creator of the show has promised us an epic and gory climax for the final season, so viewers are hoping for a satisfying ending that won’t leave any stones unturned.

11. House of the Dragon

Last summer, we got the dreadful news: House of the Dragon would end after season 4. Many fans have mixed feelings about the announcement, with some wanting more and some glad the show’s coming to a timely end. After the backlash over the final seasons of Game of Thrones, which felt rushed and didn’t make much sense, many viewers are hopeful that four seasons is the lucky number to get a satisfying ending from HOTD.

12. My Lady Jane

After just one season, My Lady Jane was canceled by Prime Video in late 2024, despite its highly praised reviews. Unfortunately, the historical fantasy story just simply didn’t receive enough viewership to warrant a second season. It’s especially heartbreaking for fans because the first season left us wanting (and expecting) more, and we’ll never get it.

13. Our Flag Means Death

If there’s one thing the world needs more of, it’s pirate comedies. This swashbuckling sitcom was canceled after its second season by Max last year, due to low viewership and budget cuts. The representation of a queer pirate love story was so special and will be deeply missed. Max can walk the plank for canceling this one.

14. Outlander

The eighth and final season of Outlander is set to premiere later this year. Despite being greenlit for renewal, Starz has decided to conclude the story of Jamie and Claire with season eight. After over a decade of tuning in to the Outlander universe, we’re sad, but excited for the prequel spinoff series (Outlander: Blood of My Blood) that will keep the storylines fresh and exciting.

15. Silo

The post-apocalytpic show Silo has announced that the fourth season, likely releasing in a few years, will be it’s last. Based on the bestselling trilogy by “Hugh Howey”, the show will continue to follow the journey of the last 10,000 people on Earth, as they learn more about the silo and the world they are living in. Although we’ll be sad to see it go, hopes are high that four seasons will bring the show to a natural and satisfying end.

16. Yellowstone

Our beloved Yellowstone came to its conclusion due to a lot of factors, but mainly because of scheduling issues and Kevin Costner’s departure from the show mid-season. It’s also been said that Costner had creative differences with the showrunner, which caused further issues. Fans weren’t happy with the lack of conclusion from his character, John Dutton. But worry not, because there are plenty of spinoffs to watch instead.
