Earlier this month, Justin and Hailey Bieber were photographed getting ice cream at good old-fashioned Cold Stone Creamery “amid marriage-crisis rumors,” as Reality Tea put it. Unfortunately, it seems everything the six-years-married couple does these days is set amid marriage-crisis rumors. Ever since Justin and the former Ms. Baldwin got married in a New York courthouse in 2018, the tabloids, the TikTok users, and even some of their own family members have questioned the stability of their union.
As divorce rumors reach a fever pitch, it may be instructive to look back and see just how many times the tabloids have predicted an end to Hailey and Justin’s marriage that has, as of this writing, yet to come. Let’s review the timeline.
September 13, 2018: Justin, 24, and Hailey, 21, visit the marriage bureau in Manhattan where they — duh duh duh — get married.
September 14, 2018: Hailey denies the news in a tweet: “I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet!” (She was indeed married.)
September 16, 2018: Us Weekly reports the couple did not sign a prenup.
November 2, 2018: Justin is photographed crying in public at the Leaky Cauldron, the Harry Potter–themed bar at Universal Studios in Orlando. Hailey is seen rubbing his back.
November 14, 2018: Two months after the couple’s secret-ish courthouse wedding, Life & Style becomes the first tabloid to fire up divorce rumors. A source claims Hailey and Justin are “headed back before a judge, this time to get a divorce” and “they should have waited until they were older.”
November 23, 2018: Justin finally confirms he is married in an Instagram post. “First thanksgiving as a married man, first time hosting thanksgiving,” he writes. “First time both sides of the family has come together. Relationships are hard and love isn’t always easy but thank you Jesus for showing me how! Every day is a learning process, trying to be more like him, patient, kind, selfless, boy I got a long way! But gods grace is sufficient !”
January 9, 2019: Justin and Hailey step out for lunch at Zinqué in L.A. Paparazzi catch Justin seemingly shutting the car door in Hailey’s face on the way in, which sparks a new round of breakup rumors.
February 7, 2019: OK! reports that Hailey has “pulled the plug” on her marriage because Justin secretly reunited with Selena Gomez. The same day, Justin and Hailey appear on the cover of Vogue, where they assure everyone they are very much still together. Notably, Justin reveals the couple waited to have sex until they were legally married.
September 15, 2019: Hailey talks about the ongoing divorce rumors in an interview with Vogue Australia. “When I had hundreds of thousands of comments bombarding me with: ‘He’s never going to this,’ ‘you’re never going to that,’ ‘you’ll be divorced by then,’” she says, “you can’t help but wonder: ‘Does someone see something that I don’t see?’” She also admits marriage is “hard.”
September 30, 2019: Justin and Hailey marry for a second time in a religious ceremony at the Montage Palmetto Bluff resort in South Carolina in front of 154 guests, including Kylie Jenner and Usher. Hailey wears a custom Off-White gown, and Justin serenades her at the reception with his 2009 hit “One Less Lonely Girl.”

September 17, 2021: During an appearance on Demi Lovato’s podcast, Hailey responds to fans’ concerns about how Justin treats her. “There’s so many narratives that float around about me, about him, about us together,” she says. “There’s one big fat narrative that goes around that’s like, ‘Justin is not nice to her and he mistreats her.’ It’s so far from the truth. It’s the complete and utter opposite.”

November 1, 2021: In an interview with Elle, Hailey says she considered leaving Justin when he was having unspecified struggles but decided to “stick it out.”
“I remember I called [my mom] a few different times. One particular time we were in Brooklyn and I was calling her, crying, and I was like, ‘I just can’t do it. There’s no way that I’m going to be able to do this if it’s going to be like this forever,’” she recalls.

May 3, 2022: In an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, Justin makes another candid confession about his marriage. “It’s a journey,” he says. “I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn’t.”
September 28, 2022: Hailey appears on a much-discussed episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, on which she insists she did not “steal” Justin from Gomez. “I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that’s the end of it,” she says.
March 1, 2023: Hailey posts an Instagram tribute for Justin’s 29th birthday, but Gomez fans flood the comments urging the couple to get a divorce.

February 28, 2024: Hailey’s dad, Stephen Baldwin, shares a cryptic post on Instagram asking his followers to “pray” for Hailey and Justin. He reposts a low-level Christian influencer who claims Justin and Hailey are facing “spiritual warfare” that “seeks to shipwreck their faith, marriage, and life in general.” Hailey and Justin respond by going to church together.
May 9, 2024: Hailey and Justin announce they are expecting their first child together in an Instagram post. They also reveal that they renewed their vows on a trip to Hawaii.
August 23, 2024: Justin announces the birth of baby Jack Blues Bieber with another Instagram post.

January 21, 2025: Divorce rumors resurface with a vengeance when fans realize Justin has unfollowed Hailey on Instagram. Justin blames the situation on an anonymous chaos agent: “SOMEONE WENT ON MY ACCOUNT AND UNFOLLOWED MY WIFE. SHIT IS GETTING SUSS OUT HERE.”
March 30, 2025: Hailey appears to unfollow Justin on Instagram. She addresses the rumors the next day in the comments of a TikTok video: “It’s a glitch. Didn’t unfollow him. Hope this helps!”
