I know first dates are supposed to be exciting, but even the thought of going on one sends me into a state of anxiety far beyond what I would describe as “first date jitters.” Sure, there are reliable first-date routines you can lean on to ease your nerves or trusty outfits you know will always boost your confidence, but the stress of the unknown you welcome by agreeing to a date is simply par for the course.
In an effort to ease my dating nerves, I asked tarot reader Hillary Coke to do a reading for The Everygirls all about what their next date could bring. Whether it’s a first date with a new crush or your weekly date night with your longtime partner, here’s how your next date will go—and how it could impact your love life in the long run.
What is tarot?
Tarot refers to any set of cards used for fortune-telling, but the most popular tarot decks today originated in Italy in the 1400s. First card: The Moon
The first card Coke pulled is The Moon, which suggests that things might not be exactly as they seem. This doesn’t mean you’re being catfished by your Hinge date, but you may experience hidden emotions, mixed signals, or uncertainty during or after the date. This could stem from a fear of opening up, on your part or theirs. It might even be unconscious fears or intuition rising to the surface.
The Moon is asking you to avoid projecting fantasies or insecurities onto your partner. Take a moment of self-reflection to get clear on your emotions and what you want from this date, even if it’s just a nice meal and a good conversation. “Trust your instincts—but also ask questions if something feels off,” said Coke.

The Three of Cups is a very social card, so your date will likely happen in a lively atmosphere. It could be a double date, a concert, or a crowded bar. No matter the setting, this card indicates you’ll share common interests and have a relaxed, comfortable time. If you love a friends-to-lovers trope, good news: this card could mean your next romance starts as a friendship. “If dating has felt pressured or intense lately, consider this a gentle reminder to enjoy the process,” Coke said. “Let your love life unfold naturally.” After all, at the end of the day, dating is supposed to be fun.
Third card: The Lovers
Romance is definitely in the air! “It is a powerful symbol in any love reading, and pulling it for a date night spread makes it even more significant,” Coke said of The Lovers. This card means your next date will bring a deep connection, and the sparks will be flying. Conversations will flow effortlessly, and there’ll be undeniable chemistry between the two of you. This card can also indicate a turning point where flirting shifts into something more serious. So this date might not just be an amazing one-off night. It could be the beginning of a real relationship.
Fourth card: Knight of Pentacles
This card is a great sign if you’re hoping to enter a long-term relationship (or are already in one). It represents steady, practical effort and could mean your date is ready to find a serious partner, even if they don’t say it right away. “This card brings grounded energy—planning, responsibility, and a desire to build something lasting,” Coke said. That said, just because something is built to last doesn’t mean the relationship will start immediately. Stay patient and opt for loyal connection, trust, and consistency over whirlwind romances and grand gestures.
