There was an undeniable “divorced dad” energy that permeated celebrity gossip this year. Ben Affleck was fresh off his divorce from J.Lo, appearing in self-deprecating Dunkin’ Donuts commercials with a cast member from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. John Mayer and B.J. Novak, though technically not divorced themselves, started dating much younger TikTok stars — a divorced move if I’ve ever seen one. Sacha Baron Cohen finalized his divorce from Isla Fisher and was quickly photographed with a 26-year-old influencer who has 3 million followers on Instagram and goes by the handle @fatherkels. Divorced!!!

Ben Affleck
Some celebrities just look better with a bit of divorced energy, and unfortunately that is the case for Affleck. He’s smoking, and he’s trying out new electric motorcycles. He’s spending Thanksgiving with his first ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and their children, and he’s showing up to his second ex-wife Jennifer Lopez’s important movie premiere and whispering in her ear on the red carpet. Affleck has settled into his divorced status so well, it almost makes me want to see him get married and divorced again. Maybe in 2026.

Justin Trudeau
Dating a pop star in your 50s shortly after the conclusion of your 18-year marriage to the mother of your three children? Now that’s divorced. The former Canadian prime minister is new to the divorced landscape and thus acting out in a surprising and occasionally cringeworthy manner. That video of him grinning in the VIP section at Perry’s Lifetimes tour stop in July? Oh, man.
Since then, Perry and Trudeau have gone increasingly public with their relationship, posting about each other on social media and making unofficial diplomatic visits to Japan together. According to the tabloids, the couple is planning to spend the holidays together. There is nothing more divorced than bringing your new pop-star girlfriend home to your family for Christmas.

David Harbour
When Stranger Things actor David Harbour and Lily Allen announced they were separating at the beginning of this year, rumors quickly surfaced that Harbour had cheated. Those rumors were more or less confirmed by Allen’s breakup album, West End Girl, which came out in October. (Who is Madeline?)
Harbour could have laid low this year and tried to tamp down some of that massive divorce energy, but instead, the 50-year-old was photographed with a 27-year-old “aspiring model” named Ellie Beers Fallon. Divorced!

Orlando Bloom
Bloom has technically only been divorced once, from his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr, in 2013, but his breakup this year with longtime fiancée Katy Perry (who is, yes, now dating Justin Trudeau) reignited his divorced vibe. Shortly after Bloom and Perry’s separation was public, Bloom attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Venice wedding solo and hinted loudly, via the tabloids, that he was single and ready to mingle. According to “Page Six,” Bloom commandeered the DJ booth away from Kygo during the reception and was “partying hard” and “sweating.” Oh dear.
Later in the year, Bloom, 48, attended a Halloween costume party (divorced) and posed with a woman who was dressed up like his ex Perry going to space. Tsk-tsk.

Jeff Bezos
And finally, there is nothing more “divorced” than having a huge second wedding, which is exactly what Bezos did when he married Lauren Sánchez in Venice in June. The billionaire Amazon founder even upped the divorced ante by inviting a bunch of A-list celebrities he may or may not actually be friends with, like Bloom, Tom Brady, Sydney Sweeney, all of the Kardashians except Kourtney, Oprah, and Leo DiCaprio. Now that I think about it, engineering a massive, multimillion-dollar social event for the express purpose of partying with Leo DiCaprio is the most divorced move a man can make. Congratulations, Jeff.
