One year after The Golden Bachelor’s season-one couple filed for divorce, the Bachelor spinoff is coming back for a second season. During a programming event in Los Angeles Tuesday, ABC and Hulu confirmed that the next installment of the series is on its way with retired NFL player Mel Owens set as its lead.
Owens, a 66-year-old lawyer, played for the Los Angeles Rams as a linebacker in the ’80s. He currently lives in Orange County, where he works as a partner at a law firm that specializes in sports injuries. Per a network release, Owens shares two sons with his “first love,” whom he split from in 2020. Apparently, after “life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams.” Sounds like a catch!

Now, of course, Owens is looking for love once more, and he hopes to “finally find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years.” Based on the comments section of ABC’s Instagram post, not everyone is rooting for him — some viewers were expecting Golden Bachelorette standouts Mark Anderson or Charles Ling to get the gig. But I’m wishing Mel good luck — here’s hoping he finds his WAG-in-training.
