Sting and Shaggy on Broadway, for 9 Nights Only

by thenowvibe_admin

Who hasn’t revised their Tony-nominated musical in order to act alongside their best friend for a few days? Oh, not Cyndi Lauper? Sting will be starring in a newly adapted version of The Last Ship, a show he wrote the score for that was loosely inspired by his childhood. Originally on Broadway back in 2014, the updated Last Ship will feature a new book as well as retooled, personal songs from Sting. He’ll play the protagonist, Jackie White, who returns to his hometown in the northeast of England and witnesses the ripple effect in his community when it’s announced that the shipyard — the town’s beating heart — is closing down. Shaggy, his dear friend and frequent collaborator, will portray the Ferryman, who in the original musical is a tertiary character who gets his spotlight with one song called “And Yet.” Perhaps the role will be expanded upon this time around.

“I grew up in the shadow of a shipyard, watching thousands of men walk past my front door every morning to work there, and imagining that would be my destiny too,” Sting said in a statement. “But the further I got, the more that shipyard called to me. The Last Ship is my tribute to the people and the place that shaped me.” The nine performances, between June 9 and June 14, will be at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House. Consider this bromance something to look forward to with a bunch of Broadway closures inevitable.
