Showgirls Beat Revolutionaries at the Box Office This Weekend

by thenowvibe_admin

Taylor Swift won this weekend’s box office battle, but One Battle After Another is winning the war with its budget. As expected, Swift’s cinematic album release event topped the box office with $45 million globally. But also, as merely hoped for, OBAA had a strong second week with $42 million globally. The film has now crossed the $100 million mark, setting it up for success financially and creatively. The same cannot be said for The Smashing Machine, which only earned $6 million in its opening weekend.

With The Life of a Showgirl, Swift beat Prince by topping the box office upon release. When Purple Rain came out, it was only at number 3. Purple Rain stayed in theaters for weeks, though. Prince’s kinda-sorta biopic debuted at $7 million domestic, but has gone on to earn over $70 million in the years since.

With the official start of spooky season, creepy features are seeing a strong showing at the B.O. The Conjuring: Last Rites is holding strong at number 5. And IFC’s Good Boy came in at number 10 with $2.2 million. According to Deadline, that’s IFC’s third-best opening weekend after Clown in the Cornfield and Late Night With the Devil.
