On Thursday, as Swifties and sentient beings everywhere hunkered down to stream The Life of a Showgirl, actress Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli announced their separation after nearly 28 years of marriage. “They are living apart and taking a break from their marriage,” a representative for Loughlin told People, adding that there are “no legal proceedings at this time.”
Loughlin, who rose to prominence as Aunt Becky on Full House, married Giannulli, a fashion designer, in 1997. The couple share two daughters together, 27-year-old actress Isabella Rose and 26-year-old influencer Olivia Jade. If these names are ringing bells, you may remember Loughlin and Giannulli for their implication in the infamous Varsity Blues scandal of 2019, in which they, along with 31 other wealthy parents of college applicants, were investigated by the Justice Department for bribing prestigious universities to admit their children. Loughlin and Giannulli were accused of paying $500,000 to score their daughters a spot at the University of Southern California by fraudulently positioning them as crew-team recruits, despite the fact that neither daughter rowed. Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud in 2020, with Loughlin serving two months in federal prison. Giannulli served five.
