Men-children, beware: Sabrina Carpenter has acquired a weapon. On Friday, she dropped her new single, “Manchild,” and it’s a rootin’-tootin’ good time for anyone who has ever dated a hot dummy. With lyrics like “Why so sexy if so dumb?” and “I like my men all incompetent,” Carpenter has made it clear she’s got a type and it’s not the sharpest spur on the cowboy boot.
In the music video, which also came out on Friday, she hitchhikes through the desert in her highest heels and Daisiest Dukes, meeting a rotating cast of himbos. She sips red wine from a straw, holds a cigarette with a fork, and soaks in a hot tub with literal pigs. It’s like if Quentin Tarantino was a Dolly Parton fan, or if Thelma and Louise decided to play some Taylor Swift on their way off the cliff. Here is a list of vehicles Carpenter rides throughout the video: a car, a truck, another truck but holding onto the back on roller skates, a motorized leather armchair, a Jet Ski on wheels, and a grocery cart attached to a motorcycle.

In a post announcing the song’s release, Carpenter called “Manchild” the “embodiment of a loving eye roll” and said she hopes fans “stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long.” She also gave a special dedication to the song’s inspiration: “Thank you men for testing me!!” Is this directed at Barry Keoghan? Who am I to say. But if it has given us the potential song of the summer, thank you, men, indeed.
