What do you get children who already have everything? This was probably Kim Kardashian’s conundrum in the lead-up to Christmas, and because she is nothing if not a problem solver, she came up with her own unique solution. They all got puppies. While that’s cute in theory, it turns out that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals doesn’t love it when you treat dogs like bikes or iPads or whatever it is that kids play with nowadays.
On Christmas Day, Kim posted a photo of four very cute Pomeranian puppies to her Instagram Story, writing, “Each kid got a puppy.” In a statement to People on Sunday, PETA slammed Kim for both her cavalier attitude toward giving living creatures as pets and for buying purebred pups instead of adopting.
“Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk told the magazine. She noted that Khloé Kardashian also got her kids a puppy and had an idea for how they could make up for it. “[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.”

Of course, it would have been amazing if Kim had adopted four dogs that were desperately in need of a home. That being said, it’s going to be really funny when four yappy puppies are wreaking havoc on her home in a future episode of The Kardashians.
