After months of trying to convince us that Fyre Fest 2.0 is real, Billy McFarland has allegedly postponed the weekend-long event without a new date in sight. The second iteration of the infamous festival was originally set to be held from May 30 to June 2 in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Shocker!
While the festival hasn’t been officially canceled yet, NBC reports that its website read: “FYRE 2 Festival is postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date in the future. If you have purchased tickets already, you will receive an email once the new date is confirmed.” Per ABC, a ticket holder received a message that said, “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced. We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.” Hey, at least they got their money back.
Following his announcement of the festival back in February, McFarland found himself in a tiff with the local Mexican government. Officials from Isla Mujeres said there were “no registrations, planning, or conditions to indicate that this will happen in our municipality.” McFarland then claimed the event would be held in Playa del Carmen, but those city officials also denied having anything to do with Fyre Fest 2.0. And, with just a month and a half out, he still hasn’t announced any musical acts, which is kind of the whole point of a music festival.
McFarland has been trying to get the second iteration of the failed festival off the ground since he was released from prison in 2022 (he was charged with fraud after his first festival go-round). Alas, this probably all just means we’ll be getting a Fyre Fest 3 announcement next year.
