BTS got back from mandatory military service just in time to compete with fictional idols on the charts. The Saja Boys, the villainous soul-snatching quintet from Netflix’s June 20 animated film, Kpop Demon Hunters, are the hottest boy group in the country on Spotify. Their song “Your Idol” hit No. 2 on Spotify’s U.S. ranking on July 3, surpassing BTS’s No. 3 hit, “Dynamite,” to become the highest-charting track by a K-pop boy group ever. No need for the BTS Army to start any fan wars over this — the Bangtan Boys themselves have been tuning in to the Saja Boys, and Kpop Demon Hunters director Maggie Kang has called for a collab between the groups.
The Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack entered the “Billboard 200” at No. 8 this week, making it the highest-debuting soundtrack of the year. It features real K-pop acts like Twice and MeloMance alongside fictional ones like Saja Boys, performed by a group of real-life singers: former K-pop Star contestant Andrew Choi, singer-producer Neckwav, YG Entertainment lyricist Danny Chung, former U-KISS member Kevin Woo, and samUIL Lee (who previously released music as Taebot). Huntr/x, the titular demon hunters performed by singer-songwriter Ejae, singer-rapper Audrey Nuna, and singer-rapper Rei Ami, are charting just behind the Saja Boys at No. 3 on the U.S. Spotify chart with “Golden.” That makes them tied with Blackpink for the U.S. K-pop girl-group record.

When will the real-life idols start fighting back? Blackpink will reportedly debut a new song when their Deadline World Tour starts on July 5, though the release timing is unclear. Meanwhile, on July 1, BTS teased in a group livestream that they might be back to break the Saja Boys’ record on a “Spring Day” in 2026.
