Mindy Kaling has seen all of the commentary about her appearance on Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, and she wants you to know it was not that deep. She went on The View to promote her own Netflix show, Running Point, and politely suggested that everyone should probably calm down.
“I had a great time,” Kaling told the hosts. “I noticed that whenever I do something related to Meghan, it becomes …” Host Whoopi Goldberg suggested “big news,” which Kaling agreed with. “We were making sandwiches and, you know, then they’ll push in on my face on TikTok and they’ll be like, ‘Look at this emotion you felt,’” Kaling said. “And I honestly didn’t even remember, ’cause we shot it, like, nine months ago.”
Kaling’s episode of With Love, Meghan was the only one to really make any noise, due largely to an exchange between the women in which Meghan corrected Kaling about her last name. Kaling had referred to her as “Meghan Markle,” and Meghan, in a tone that was probably meant to sound easy-breezy but came off as kind of intense, said, “It’s so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle; you know I’m Sussex now.”
On The View, Kaling quickly turned the conversation back to her own project. “I loved my time with Meghan. I’m also like, let her promote her show, I’m here to talk about Running Point,” she said. Now that’s a pro!
