Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyers are not playing around. This week, the rapper’s attorneys shared a 31-page slideshow refuting ongoing claims by Tory Lanez’s legal team that new evidence proves he did not shoot her in the foot back in 2020. Lanez is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for the incident after being found guilty in 2023.
“Despite Mr. Lanez being convicted at trial by overwhelming evidence (that included his own admission of his guilt), he and his team — flanked by any ignorant person they can find — have pushed whatever misleading narrative they can,” Megan’s lawyer Alex Spiro said in a press release. “One by one, their misleading statements unravel and all that is left is the simple truth: he was convicted by overwhelming evidence and those who seek to traumatize the victim of the crime should be called out as foolish bullies.”
In the past few weeks, talk of Lanez’s supposed innocence has intensified thanks to a press conference his lawyers held two days after he was reportedly hospitalized for a stab wound he received from another inmate. Gianno Caldwell, a Fox News contributor working with Lanez’s team, claimed the rapper was “never given a fair trial free from bias, political interference, and media-driven pressure.” Another attorney for Lanez, Walter Roberts, told reporters that Lanez did not fire the gun that night and that it was instead Megan’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris. (This was also an argument put forth by Lanez’s trial attorney, George Mgdesyan.) “[Harris] fired at [Megan] three times. Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times,” Roberts alleged. “In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody.” Roberts also claimed Harris’s bodyguard, Bradley James, overheard her confessing to the shooting.
Following the press conference, Spiro gave a statement to XXL, saying, “Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers, and his case was properly adjudicated through the court system. This is not a political matter — this is a case of a violent assault that was resolved in the court of law.”
He did not stop there, though. The slideshow, made publicly available in Spiro’s press release, goes through the prosecution’s evidence in the 2023 trial step-by-step. One slide devoted to “unsworn rumors” states that James was not an eyewitness to the shooting, wasn’t even present at the scene, and, per the slide, “has not publicly addressed these claims himself — Peterson’s team merely alleges what James said.”

Several slides are devoted to dispelling the idea that Harris had fired the gun. In one screenshot of an Instagram comment, Lanez himself seems to say she didn’t do it. There’s also a report claiming that the majority of the DNA on the gun came from a man. Megan’s lawyers noted that the gun was found still warm under Lanez’s seat and that there was gunshot residue on his hands.
While her legal team takes Lanez’s supporters to task, Megan is at least getting some support from her industry peers. SZA appeared in the comments of an Instagram video from lawyer and influencer Alicia Luncheon expressing her contempt for Lanez’s supporters. “The density !!!!! I’m actually SO shocked at the amount of ppl fully comfortable bullying a woman that’s proven to be a victim of assault ??!” SZA wrote. “Like out loud where other ppl can see you ?? Lmao u finna be stupid OUTLOUD ?”
Megan isn’t staying quiet about this either. She shared a statement on TikTok on May 20 expressing her exasperation with those who continue to claim Lanez is innocent. “At what point are yall gonna stop making me have to re live being shot BY TORY!?” she wrote. “At what point are Tory and yall FANS gonna stop lying? Like how much is the check to keep harassing me? Why is this happening EVERY DAY??”
“How yall mad at the person that got shot ????” she continued. “FACTS ARE FACTS, he did it, it was PROVEN IN COURT fuck the hate campaign on the internet TORY YOU SHOT ME !!” Megan said there was “no new fucking evidence” and demanded that Lanez — whom she refers to as a “fucking demon” — leave her alone. Seems like he might want to listen.
