The Substance’s Oscar Campaign Has Gone Too Far

by thenowvibe_admin

On Tuesday, Margaret Qualley was photographed at the Berlin Film Festival ahead of the premiere of her new film, Blue Moon. As is the case with these international film festivals, Qualley sat for a press conference with her co-stars Ethan Hawke and Andrew Scott, plus the film’s director, Richard Linklater. She was also joined by her dog, Smokey, who sat nestled in the crook of her arm for most of the Q&A. Interesting. Who does that remind you of?

It appears Qualley has taken a page out of her Substance co-star Demi Moore’s book and started bringing her dog to work events. In case you’re unfamiliar, Moore has a dog named Pilaf who is basically glued to her rib cage. Wherever Moore goes, Pilaf is there. Pilaf went to Oh, Mary, Pilaf was an integral part of Moore’s press tour for The Substance, and Pilaf has met Bella Hadid. She is a well-established star in the world of dog celebrities.

Enter: Smokey. Who the hell is this hot new dog glued to Qualley’s rib cage? Smokey and Pilaf, much like Sue and Elisabeth in The Substance, share some characteristics. The camera loves them, they long to curl up in the arms of their mothers, and they both enjoy a European film festival. But I fear life is imitating art, and both of them cannot exist in the spotlight at once — at least not while The Substance’s Oscar campaign is ongoing. One of them will have to be kept in a hidden room behind a bathroom during the awards show.

So long as these two dogs respect the balance — and Pilaf is the one who gets to go to the Oscars — this seems fine. What could go wrong?
