For all of the right-wing posturing about how they were going to watch Kid Rock play during the Super Bowl halftime show, conservatives sure had a lot to say about Bad Bunny’s show Sunday night. No one is having more trouble processing it all than Logan and Jake Paul. The Paul brothers — who both own multimillion-dollar houses in Puerto Rico and have praised the tax advantages they get living there — have seemingly spent the past 12 hours struggling to unpack their feelings about the whole performance.
Let’s start with Jake Paul, who was supporting his fiancée at the Olympics this weekend but still found time to be a hater. In an X post before the show on Sunday, Jake said he would be “purposefully turning off the halftime show” and called for his followers to “rally together” and do the same. “Turn off this halftime. A fake American citizen performing who publicly hates America. I cannot support that,” Jake wrote. Jake’s post was quickly tagged with a community note, which pointed out that Puerto Ricans are, in fact, U.S. citizens.
Lest you assume this was an opinion the other Paul would agree with, Logan later chimed in to offer his take. Despite bluntly telling Fox News he was not looking forward to the show beforehand, Logan, who attended the Super Bowl in person, had a slightly more enlightened approach. “I love my brother but I don’t agree with this,” Logan wrote. “Puerto Ricans are Americans & I’m happy they were given the opportunity to showcase the talent that comes from the island.”
It was at this point that Jake started walking back his post, claiming that the word “fake” in his tweet was “being misinterpreted.” “He’s not a fake citizen obviously [because] he’s Puerto Rican and I love Puerto Rico and all Americans who support the country,” Jake wrote. “Moreso Bunny is fake [because] of his values and criticism of our great country.”

Jake went on to defend himself even harder in another post, in which he professed to be a huge fan of Puerto Rico, actually. “To clarify: I wasn’t calling anyone a ‘fake citizen’ because they’re from Puerto Rico. I live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and will always do so,” Jake wrote. “But if you’re publicly criticizing ICE who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I’m going to speak on it. Period.” He then dug in harder on what he meant by calling Bad Bunny a “fake American citizen” in his initial post. “If you benefit from a country and the platform it gives you, but publicly disrespect it at the same time, that’s what I mean by being a fake citizen,” he wrote.
Which brings us to Monday morning, when it appears Jake came down with a bad case of poster’s regret. In yet another X post, he seemingly denied knowing how those pesky posts wound up there in the first place. “Guys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my twitter last night ?? wtf,” he wrote. Shortly after that, he returned to cheering on his fiancée, Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam, who won the women’s 1,000-meter final.
Responding to the Brothers Paul, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Jake for his comments about Bad Bunny. “Didn’t you MOVE to Puerto Rico to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry? Meanwhile Benito actually funds low income kids’ access to arts and sports programs, while you defund them,” she wrote. “Of course you’re mad. He makes you look small.”
By Monday afternoon, Jake Paul was really listening and learning — he had changed his X bio to “Benito #1 fan.” If you say so!
