JoJo Siwa is done pretending that she and her Celebrity Big Brother co-star Chris Hughes are just really, really close friends. For weeks now, the two of them have been posting some very cozy photo dumps after developing such an intense bond on the reality show that Siwa broke up with her partner. Now they’re ready to state the obvious: They’re dating.
The couple’s romance was all but confirmed on Sunday, when Hughes posted a selfie of the two of them on Snapchat. In the photo, they’re lying in bed (no clothing is visible) and Siwa is resting her head on Hughes’s chest with her eyes closed as he kisses her forehead. Hughes captioned the photo “Sleeepinnn beauty.” Hopefully she was able to stay asleep while Hughes blasted his iPhone flash in the middle of the night.

If that wasn’t enough of a confirmation, Siwa herself addressed the relationship to The Guardian in a profile published on Monday. “It’s not platonic anymore, and it’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way,” Siwa said of her “sweet Christopher.” Au revoir, “platonic soulmate” connection; hello to intimate bed selfies and officially announcing your romantic relationship in a reputable media outlet.

“I won’t ever speak for him,” Siwa continued, “But for me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now. Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I’ve never [before] been in pain from smiling so much.” The Guardian noted Siwa appeared to be “utterly smitten” and “the hearts-for-eyes emoji in human form.” Love is love, I guess, even if it’s between a 22-year-old children’s entertainment mogul and a 32-year-old Love Island alum who once dabbled in being a white rapper.
Prior to this development, Siwa had identified as a lesbian. Since beginning her relationship with Hughes, she says, she’s broadened her label. Siwa told The Guardian she now identifies as queer, saying, “There’s a lot of different sexual identities. I think there’s nothing more beautiful than somebody discovering themselves.”
I’m sending love and light to JoJo, who seems genuinely besotted with her new man. The timing could have been a little better, though, as she has accidentally turned herself into the final boss of “Boyfriend at Pride” discourse. That being said, good luck to the happy couple!
