All it takes are some cozy-looking paparazzi photos for romance rumors to catch fire. At least that’s what happened on Monday night, when Janet Jackson showed up to the Playhouse Theatre in London with R&B singer Maxwell. They were there to catch the 1,500th performance of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club along with some other stars, including Eddie Redmayne and Helena Bonham Carter. The duo looked awfully close as they walked towards the theater, holding hands and smiling for paparazzi photos in coordinating suits.

People online were quick to get excited about the possibility of a budding romance between the two. “Seeing Janet holding hands with Maxwell really made me hope to see her in a relationship again. She deserves it,” someone tweeted. ”I know they’re probably just good friends…. but I don’t care!!! I’m shipping them together!!!” another person wrote.

Even so, it looks like these two have been close for quite some time. Jackson and Maxwell have plenty of other cozy red carpet photos together, which means it’s entirely possible that they’re just really good friends. Still … isn’t that how all great relationships start?
