Last week, Halle Berry’s ex-husband raised a lot of eyebrows after disparaging her for not being “motherly” during their marriage. During an August 7 appearance on the podcast All the Smoke, former baseball player David Justice — who Berry was married to for four years in the ’90s — said he’s a “Midwest guy, so in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean.” Apparently, that got him doubting whether Berry was “the woman I want to have kids with.” He went on: “At that time, as a young guy — she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues.”
Obviously, Justice faced a lot of backlash for his unsolicited opinions on how women (and mothers) should behave. It seems as if Berry, who has two children — Nahla Ariela Aubry, 17, and Maceo-Robert Martinez, 11 — also caught wind of his comments. On Thursday, she posted a celebratory Instagram carousel for her 59th birthday, which included a bunch of tropical vacation pictures with her boyfriend, Van Jones. In the caption, she wrote, “Phew …! cooking, cleaning and mothering.”

In the photos, Berry showed off an envelope labeled “Mom” — presumably a birthday card from her kids — and a chocolate cake with a candle in it. She also included a bunch of pics of her looking extremely unbothered in a bikini. Maybe her ex will think twice before offering his take on her parenting eligibility next time.
