After five seasons and countless deadpan confessionals, Garcelle Beauvais is exiting The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for greener pastures. On Tuesday, the 58-year-old announced her surprise departure in an Instagram selfie video, explaining, “It’s been a wild ride, some amazing things have happened, and some hard things have also happened — but it’s been a ride nevertheless.”
“To the fans, I want to say thank you so much. You guys have cheered me on, supported me, and sometimes even fought for me or on my behalf,” she added. “It means a lot, and I hope you guys will continue on this journey with me.”
During her tenure, Beauvais has been praised for infusing some political awareness into a cast that, when left to their own devices, have demonstrated what she called “unconscious Karen behavior.” She held the women accountable for repeated microaggressions and initiated conversations about police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. And while it seems Beauvais is ready for life after Housewives, she noted in her video message that Bravo patron saint Andy Cohen said she could return anytime: “The door will always be open, so you never know, I might pop back in sometime,” she said with a laugh. “It’s not good-bye, it’s see you later.”
