It’s once again Music’s Biggest Night, where heavy hitters vie for the most esteemed qualifiers to stick onto album packaging. There’s a lot for five-time host Trevor Noah to get into after this weekend in Los Angeles saw huge “ICE OUT” demonstrations and an arrest for Don Lemon on specious terror charges just hours after he attended a concert from the Best New Artist–nominated girl group KATSEYE. Former Daily Show host Noah says his sixth Grammy gig will be his last; maybe this will give his careful act a sharp edge. If not, they’ve corralled Ms. Lauryn Hill to salute D’Angelo and Roberta Flack. A stellar crop of nominees leaves few duds in major categories like Album of the Year, where everyone from Lady Gaga to Bad Bunny to Kendrick Lamar have a shot at gold. The big question is how many of this year’s trophies five-time 2025 winner Lamar carries off this time. —Craig Jenkins

Giving the award to the emotional audience singalong is a sweet tribute that also happens to sideline anything actually musically dangerous. It is an objectively technically impressive performance — and it’s cool that Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt and Anthrax’s Frank Bello and Rick Wakeman’s son, Adam, get Grammys — but there were leagues more “rock has a bright future” picks to make than this person.

Darren Criss, accepting award after award on behalf of other artists, must feel like he’s in that Twilight Zone episode where the guy keeps winning at a casino and realizes he’s in hell.

Grammy Sunday starts with the Premiere Ceremony.
Directly before the main Grammys telecast, there’s a smaller but just as important event called the Premiere Ceremony. It’s where roughly 90 percent of the awards get handed out, and it’s the only way to see certain genre categories get recognized. This year’s event is hosted by Darren Criss, whose Maybe Happy Ending is nominated for Best Musical Theater Album. This is also (likely) the only way you’ll get to see Zara Larsson perform on Grammys night. Which is frankly rude but also one reason to watch, at 3:30 ET!
