There’s more Harry Potter news, and thankfully this tidbit will distract you from whatever is going on with the HBO show. On Wednesday, per the BBC, Emma Watson was banned from driving for six months by a British judge after she was caught on-camera speeding last year. As far as former-child-star struggles go, treating the streets of Oxford like Daytona is not too bad.
Just how fast was she going? Watson, who is currently taking the classic bad-apple path of pursuing a creative-writing degree at Oxford, was zooming down the road at a gobsmacking 38 mph in a 30-mph zone. Perhaps a slightly uptempo Joni Mitchell song got the best of her.
Now, Watson did have nine points on her license leading up to this incident, so it’s not like she was forced into the passenger seat out of nowhere. (I would like to know what other moving violations Watson has committed. My guess is rolling stops.) In addition to losing her driving privileges, Watson was apparently ordered to pay a £1,044 fine. The actress did not appear in court, but her lawyer said that she is “in a position to pay the fine.” Not all grad students can say that.
