After his unceremonious exit from The Bachelor franchise in 2021, Chris Harrison is making his big return to the world of reality-TV hosting. On Wednesday, Harrison posted a casting call for people interested in “traditional marriage” to his Instagram. In a tale as old as time, it appears that a man who was called out for defending racism has made a conservative heel turn.
To recap, Harrison got himself into hot water in 2021 when he defended Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell after photos of her attending an antebellum-themed college party surfaced. In an interview with Rachel Lindsay, the first Black Bachelorette, Harrison said that while the behavior would be unacceptable in 2021, that “was not the case in 2018.” “I’m not defending Rachael — I just know 50 million people who did that in 2018,” he said at the time. “That was a type of party that a lot of people went to.” A few months later it was reported that Harrison was leaving the franchise after coming to an eight-figure settlement deal with ABC.

But now he’s back and looking for young men and women who might think that the Bachelor universe is a little too progressive for their liking. According to his post, Harrison’s new show will be on “a prominent streaming network” and is looking for singles who “want a traditional, marriage-minded partnership built on commitment and shared values.” These singles should “believe in clear roles, long-term commitment, and building a life together.” The top comment on Harrison’s post reads, “I’m sorry this is giving MAGA😭”

For those interested, the application asks questions such as: “What does a traditional marriage mean to you?” and “What would your ideal marriage look like? (For example: a provider husband and a stay-at-home wife; the wife managing the home/finances/child care; faith-based leadership in the home.)”
The whole thing reeks of a tradwife dating show, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe instead of roses, Harrison will be handing out little jars of beef tallow and sourdough starter.
