Despite the weakness of their dollar, it has never been a better time to be Canadian. They’ve got the world’s hottest TV show, their former prime minister is dating a pop star, and their current prime minister isn’t fostering a culture of violence and terror. Plus, it’s almost Winter Olympics season — they love that stuff up there! If I were a Canadian pop star, I would be waving the maple leaf loud and proud right about now. Tate McRae, however, has taken a different tack.
On Tuesday the singer, who hails from Calgary, posted a promotional video for the Winter Olympics on NBC. In it, she tells an owl (sure) that she’s skiing to Milan (of course) for “an amazing Opening Ceremony” and to “meet Team USA” (traitorous?).

McRae also hyped up America’s figure skaters and Lindsey Vonn’s “epic comeback” before saying that she would make it back to the States in time for the Super Bowl this Sunday. Quite the American pivot from a girl so Canadian her whole thing used to be making hockey pads look sexy.

While the tabloids have made hay out of the “backlash” and “dragging” McRae is receiving from her Canadian fans, her Instagram comments section appears to be mostly supportive. Personally, I look forward to seeing which American pastimes McRae will hype next — maybe she’ll get really into baseball or privatized health insurance.
