With the Tonys right around the corner, Broadway’s messiest love triangle is once again front and center in the tabloids. Last week, Hugh Jackman’s estranged wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, filed for divorce after nearly three years of separation, per “Page Six.”
On Tuesday, the Australian outlet New Idea claimed that Jackman had “all but moved” Sutton Foster (his rumored girlfriend and former Music Man co-star) into the New York penthouse he lived in with Furness. While neither Jackman nor Foster have commented on reports of their co-habitation, Furness isn’t happy about her ex’s new flame, telling the Daily Mail her ongoing breakup is a “profound wound that cuts deep.”
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” the 69-year-old said on Tuesday. “However, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.”
“This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage,” she added.
Furness’s “traumatic journey of betrayal” came into public view last year when Foster filed for divorce, ending her ten-year marriage to Ted Griffin, and prompting speculation that Jackman and Foster were sneaking around behind the scenes of the Music Man production. While Jackman and Foster have been seen taking romantic little walks, making out at In-N-Out, and holding hands like any above-board couple, Furness has repeatedly insisted that not only were they having an emotional affair, but that Jackman left Furness for Foster. I mean … yeah, that does sound traumatic, Deborra-Lee.
While Furness has not publicly addressed the reports of Foster moving into her former apartment, an unnamed source told New Idea that the actress is “shattered knowing Sutton is making the penthouse her own — the place she poured her soul into.” Furness reportedly got a decent chunk of Jackman’s $250 million fortune and, according to her Daily Mail statement, seems to have found God in the rubble of her marriage: “We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves … I remain grateful.”

And how is Jackman doing amid all this? Well, according to his childhood friend and the godparent of the estranged couple’s children, he’s “fine.” During an episode of Ben Fordham Live, Australian radio personality Gus Worland said Jackman was “going along well” given the circumstances. Talking about Furness’s recent comments, he said, “It’s not just that statement, but the last couple of years have been difficult. No one wants anyone to go through what they’ve been through.” Worland added that Jackman is “moving on with his life, and I hope that Deb does as well.”
Meanwhile, an anonymous source told the Daily Mail that Jackman “was extremely disappointed after reading what his ex had said,” noting that there was “no stipulation that she could not address this” in their divorce proceedings, “but there was an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press.” The source added that Jackman “caved in to all her divorce requests,” but “knows that he cannot change anything, and it is unfortunate that Deb feels the way she did.” If anything, it’s shaping up to be a dramatic Tonys.
