On Tuesday, a trove of documents were unsealed as part of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s never-ending legal battle, including a string of text exchanges purportedly between Lively and Taylor Swift. This isn’t the first time Swift’s name has come up as part of the It Ends With Us legal battle — several filings from Baldoni’s team have claimed Swift was involved in interactions between him and Lively; in June 2025, after his attorneys withdrew their attempt to subpoena Swift, they successfully petitioned for access to Swift and Lively’s text history. The ongoing drama has fueled rumors of a falling-out between the two friends, all while Swift has seemingly tried to distance herself from the case. Here’s what we learned from the latest court docs.
Swift seemingly admitted to feeling “distance” in her friendship with Lively.
In one batch of unsealed texts from December 2024, Lively and Swift seem to have discussed how the It Ends With Us drama was impacting their friendship. In a message that looks like it was sent before Lively filed her lawsuit, Lively asked, “Is everything ok?” Adding, “I felt like a bad friend lately because I was such a sad sack who only talked about my own shit for months. You were generous to not only be the key person there for me during all of it, but also to let me off the hook for being so in it. But I still have a feeling something may not be right.” Lively said she wanted to be “a better friend if there’s something I unintentionally did,” and appeared to acknowledge “how busy and taxed” Swift was (the texts are dated around the time of Swift’s last three shows on the Eras Tour). “Just want to make sure all is good,” Lively wrote.
According to the court documents, Swift responded that Lively was “not wrong” to notice a change, but added it was “not a big deal.” “I’m just exhausted in every avenue of my life,” the text said, noting “a little bit of a shift in the way you talk to me,” particularly with “the Justin stuff.” “I feel really bad saying anything about this because your texts have been so nice in their intent but your last few … it’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees,” Swift purportedly wrote, saying that she missed her “funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself.” “And I know you feel attacked from all sides for ridiculous reasons so you’re feeling like you have to overly explain things or be overly nice or whatever but … It’s me! That’s just caused a little distance,” she added, per the filings. “And you don’t need to apologize. Just come back please.”

Lively responded a few hours later that she’d become “digitally paranoid.” “The thing that spooked me most in all this though wasn’t the bad guys being bad guys,” she wrote. “It was the good guys, my lifelong friends — allies to women — who quietly dipped. And so I’m probably being over the top with my friends who stayed because I’ve never felt more alone.”
Swift made fun of Baldoni’s “tiny violin,” according to the filings.
In the same exchange with Lively in December 2024, Swift seems to have sent a screenshot of a People article about Baldoni saying he’d been “sexually traumatized,” writing, “I think this bitch knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin.” More texts from that conversation appear to show her supporting Lively — “This is so disgusting and I hate that he’s clever about this shit,” one reads; another reads, “He needs to be beaten by his OWN words.”
Lively seems to have asked Swift to praise her script in front of Baldoni.
The unsealed documents appear to show texts between Swift and Lively shortly before Swift reportedly met Baldoni in April 2023 at Lively and Ryan Reynolds’s New York City penthouse. Describing Baldoni as a “doofus director,” Lively said she would be “ushering him out” when Swift arrived, but that she “hopes he’s still there.” Lively seemed to ask Swift to express her enthusiasm for Lively’s revisions. “He’s a clown and thinks he’s a writer now … so having the greatest living story teller unknowingly echo to him how much you love what we’re doing (giving him credit as if he wrote them with me) will go such a long way,” she wrote. Per the filings, Swift responded, “I’ll do anything for you!!”
Swift has denied being involved in the creative process for It Ends With Us.
In a statement back in June, Swift’s representation emphasized that she “never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.” The statement added that the subpoena previously brought by Baldoni’s team was “designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
In a statement, attorneys for Lively said that this “newly unsealed evidence contains never-before seen testimony, messages, and evidence from numerous eyewitnesses backing the claims in Ms. Lively’s lawsuit.” Baldoni’s lawyers said in a statement that “a simple read of the newly released message exchanges make the truth abundantly clear. We remain confident in the legal process and clearing the names of all of the Justin Baldoni parties.”
