On Monday, police in Los Angeles responded to a report of a foul smell coming from a Tesla in a Hollywood tow yard. Human remains were reportedly found in the car, which was registered to the singer d4vd, real name David Anthony Burke. According to TMZ, the body found in the car was “chopped up and heavily decomposed,” which will make it more difficult to identify the victim. The whole thing is very grisly and dark, but Burke seems determined not to let it stop him from performing. Here’s everything we know about the situation:
Who is d4vd?
Burke is a 20-year-old singer from Houston who got his big break on TikTok with a song called “Romantic Homicide,” which now has 1.6 billion streams on Spotify. He continued his ascent with another TikTok smash, “Here With Me,” which was inescapable on the app in late 2022 and early 2023. Burke released his debut album, Withered, this past April, and has been on his Withered World Tour since early August.
And police found a body in his Tesla?
On Monday, law-enforcement officers found a decomposed body in a Tesla registered to Burke after responding to a call from employees at the Hollywood Tow impound lot, NBC News reported. The employees called police after noticing a “foul odor coming from a vehicle.” NBC4 reported that the car, which has Texas plates, was towed last Friday after being parked in the nearby Hollywood Hills neighborhood for at least a month. TMZ noted that the car had never been reported stolen.
The remains were reportedly found in a bag in the front trunk of the Tesla. Sources told NBC News that identification will be delayed due to the amount of decomposition. However, the New York Post reported that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office was able to share that the victim was a five-foot-two woman with black wavy hair. She was found wearing a tube top and leggings, and she had a tattoo on her finger that read “Shhhh.”

Has d4vd said anything about the case?
Burke has yet to comment on the situation publicly, but he’s spoken to the police. In a statement to NBC News, a spokesperson for the singer said that he “has been informed about what’s happened, and although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Meanwhile, TMZ reported that the singer was removed from a Crocs campaign for Hollister after the news broke, with the clothing brand replacing him with a different model on the website. It’s unclear if the store has completely severed ties with Burke or if it’s just removed his photos for the time being. The Cut has reached out to Hollister for comment.
But he’s still on tour?
Yeah. On Tuesday night, Burke performed in Minneapolis to a crowd that seemed pretty hyped to see him. Perhaps obviously, Burke did not address the ongoing police investigation during his show, opting instead to toss Labubus into the crowd.

In the comment section of one TikTok from the concert, Burke’s fans were supporting him. “It takes serious guts to be able to face your fans and give them an amazing show with everything going on, I hope he’s alright,” one commenter wrote. “This takes [so much] professionalism bro … I truly hope he’s okay,” shared another.
Burke has another show on Wednesday night in Kansas City and wraps up his U.S. tour dates at the end of the month before heading to Europe.
The Cut has reached out to a representative for Burke and will update this post if we hear back.
