We’re Getting a Benito Super Bowl

Bad Bunny is taking on the Super Bowl. On Sunday, the NFL announced during the Dallas Cowboys versus the Green Bay Packers game halftime that the Puerto Rican rapper and singer will headline the 2026 halftime show.

In a statement shared by the NFL, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, dedicated his upcoming performance to “my people, my culture, and our history,” adding, “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown.” He continued, “Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL,” which translates to “Go tell your grandma we’re going to be the Super Bowl halftime show.”

In a promo video for the performance, Bad Bunny is shown sitting on a goalpost on a beach. In the clip, the artist wears a pava — a straw hat historically worn by Puerto Rican farmers — which has become a revolutionary symbol and marker of Puerto Rican pride. The artist previously wore a pava to the Met Gala as well as in the promotional photos for his most recent album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.

The pava was also a recurring motif during his wildly popular residency in Puerto Rico, which started in July and wrapped earlier this month. In November, he’ll kick off the world tour for his album, which does not include any dates in the continental U.S. — a move he told i-D magazine was out of concern that “fucking ICE could be outside” his shows and target his fans. He nodded to that decision in his Super Bowl announcement on Sunday, writing in a post on X, “I’ve been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I’ll do just one date in the United States.” And thank God for that.
