Was Anthony Ramos in the Hamilton Reunion or No?

On Sunday night, the original cast of Hamilton reunited for a tenth-anniversary performance at the Tony Awards. But something was off. Nearly every original cast member — including Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, and Lin-Manuel Miranda — was present to belt out a medley of Hamilton karaoke. Notably not on-camera, however, was Anthony Ramos, who originated two roles in the 2015 production.

In the lead-up to the Tonys, Los Angeles magazine had reported that Ramos was the only original cast member who was not set to perform at the ceremony. Some had assumed that the actor was tied up with the upcoming Ryan Murphy production The Beauty, which Ramos is starring in and executive producing. But those rumors were abruptly dispelled when the 33-year-old was spotted at a Tonys dress rehearsal on Sunday, and again when he showed up on the red carpet later that evening. But strangely, in official footage of the actual performance, Ramos was nowhere to be found — save for a brief moment when the actor was seen exiting the wings with the rest of the cast.

So…what’s going on here? Ramos’ weird presence fueled speculation about his ex-fiancé, Jasmine Cephas Jones, also an original cast member who joined the performers on Sunday night. Once a Hamilton meet-cute, the pair dated for nearly six years before they ended their engagement in 2021. So you can kind of see why they wouldn’t want to share a stage.

And yet, according to some less official footage from Sunday night, it looks like Ramos was onstage after all. Maybe he just got really unlucky in the medley formations, or there’s a camera operator out there who rides for Team Jasmine. What’s the Tonys without a little backstage drama? That’s showbiz, baby.
