Sofia Coppola Art Directed a Very Fancy Museum Party

by thenowvibe_admin

For the first fancy party of Paris Couture Week, Sofia Coppola art-directed Le Bal d’Été — the Summer Ball — at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the Louvre on Sunday evening. Like the Met Gala, the black-tie ball is filled with fashion insiders and famous celebs, and is put on to raise money for the museum. This year’s packed guest list included Kirsten Dunst, Anna Wintour, Keira Knightley, Penélope Cruz, Pat McGrath, Zac Posen, Christian Louboutin, and more.

Coppola’s artistic direction for the party appears to have taken decor inspo from her opulent, pastel-filled 2006 film, Marie Antoinette — in fact, she hired the same florist who worked on set, Thierry Boutemy. They designed the space with ferns and palm fronds lining the walls and rose-colored tables with pink garden roses, peonies, dahlias, and what appear to be floral hand fans in case the European air conditioning failed the 300-something guests in the Parisian summer heat.

According to the New York Times, small floral stickers were placed over guest’s cell phone cameras to prevent them from documenting the evening, but thankfully, the measly little decal didn’t stop Coppola’s daughter, Romy Mars, from posting on social media. She filmed a few TikToks, including her mom taking a photo of the rosy tablescape, another of her posing with her sister Cosima and models Camille Rowe and Bianca Brandolini, and a front-row shot of the after-dinner entertainment, which just so happened to include a performance from her father Thomas Mars and his band, Phoenix. Must be nice to be Romy!

An estimated $2.8 million was raised during the ball, and the funds will go toward supporting the exhibition 1925–2025: One Hundred Years of Art Deco, which opens October 22. Better book your tickets to Paris now.
