Sheryl Lee Ralph has always been a true diva and a star — and her recent recommitment ceremony with her husband, Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Hughes, was properly befitting of one. The couple held their vow renewals at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to celebrate 20 whole years of marriage, per Vogue, proving that love is not only real but fabulous.
Ralph was styled by her daughter, Coco, who dressed her in a custom white Monsoori haute couture gown. Ralph also wore an 80-foot shawl by costume designer Perry Meek, which was carried up the infamous Rocky steps of the museum by 22 ballerinas. “Fashion for me is absolute theater,” Ralph told Vogue. “I come from the stage, and I love the drama of what you bring on the stage.” As for her husband, he described her as “beautiful” and “all of that and a bag of barbecue potato chips.”

Ralph met Hughes in the early aughts when a friend set them up for dinner in New York while Ralph was performing on Broadway in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Ralph told People in January that she and Hughes have lived separately — she in Los Angeles, he in Philadelphia — for the entirety of their marriage. “I wasn’t at a place where I was willing to give up my career, but I also didn’t want to give up having a stable relationship with the kind of man that I knew would be there for me,” she told Vogue of their decision to commit to each other while pursuing their respective dreams. “When Beyoncé says, ‘You put my love on top,’ he put my love right on top, top, top.”
Congrats to these cuties on 20 years and on bestowing yet another historically significant event on the Rocky steps.
