Sarah Jessica Parker Is a Carrie Apologist

by thenowvibe_admin

For 27 years, we’ve watched Sarah Jessica Parker make some questionable decisions as Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw. She’s cheated on boyfriends, been a bad friend, made terrible personal and financial choices, and gotten up to countless more cringey antics (remember the biphobia episode?). People have called her the worst character on the show — there’s even an entire website dedicated to Carrie hate — but others don’t care. They love her realness, and so does SJP.

On Monday, April 21, Parker appeared on Today With Jenna & Friends and defended her character’s unsavory quirks. When asked if she ever wanted Carrie to make different (a.k.a. better) decisions, she flat-out said no. “It’s been such a sort of extraordinary experience,” she said. “I try to describe it as being contractually obligated to play somebody else — be somebody else — for about 27 years, to behave in ways which would be illegal if I, as a married person with children, ways in which I would behave in the city or with men.”

“I feel like I have such implicit trust and faith in [showrunner] Michael Patrick and his extraordinary writing staff that, though decisions sometimes, I recognize, might be controversial or give people grief or have people have very big feelings, it’s incredibly fun to do,” Parker explained. “So I really love it.”

Carrie’s returning to our screens for season three of And Just Like That …, premiering on May 29, meaning we’ll have plenty of chances to watch her make more problematic decisions that we’ll surely love to hate. Hey, at least she’s entertaining.
