Sabrina Carpenter heard that there was no clear contender for song of the summer, and she got to work. On Tuesday, after sharing a teaser video, she announced that a new single, “Manchild,” will drop later this week.

Carpenter’s rollout began Monday, when she shared an ’80s-VHS-quality teaser video of herself trying unsuccessfully to hitchhike on a dusty desert highway while wearing a pair of cheek-baring cutoffs. The video is silent until the very end, when Carpenter giggles and says, “Oh boy.” While some fans insisted that this was nothing more than a sneak peek at a music video for last year’s “Busy Woman,” that turned out to be a bit of a stretch.
Also on Monday, a Carpenter fan account shared that billboards featuring the singer’s logo have popped up in Texas. One reads “I swear they choose me, I’m not choosing them.” Sounds like a lyric, right? There’s one that says “Hey men!” and another that says “Amen.” Clever. Finally, there’s one that says, “‘Manchild,’” in quotes just like a song title.

Sure enough, on Tuesday, Carpenter shared that the Jack Antonoff–produced “Manchild” would drop later this week. “This one’s about you!!” she wrote on X. A photo of the accompanying vinyl shows “Inside of your head when you’ve just won an argument with a man” scrawled on the disc. Hopefully Barry Keoghan is prepared.
