Setting your friends up really does work, apparently. Need proof? Normani and her longtime boyfriend, DK Metcalf, just got engaged, three years after Ciara and her husband, Russell Wilson, set them up on a blind date.
Metcalf, a Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and Wilson’s former teammate, announced the couple’s engagement on Thursday during a press conference. When a reporter asked Metcalf if he’d sought out advice from Wilson on living in Pittsburgh — Wilson played with the Steelers for one season in 2024 — he responded, “Well, I talked to Russ yesterday after I proposed to my fiancée.” He explained that “Russ” had connected him and his “now-fiancée, Normani,” before looking toward her off-camera and saying, “Hold that rock up, baby.”

“My family and her family were in Houston,” Metcalf explained of the proposal. “It was my sister’s spring break, and we just thought about getting the whole family together for a big kumbaya and joining our families with the ring.”
@ciara @Russell Wilson and I knew when we introed yall 3yrs ago ..love was truly in the air! Now yall gon be booed up for forever!! This was the best news! @DK Metcalf @Normani we love yall so much! 🫶🏽💍
Ciara was quick to proudly claim credit for the pair, posting a screenshot from a FaceTime with the couple on TikTok. “Russell Wilson and I knew when we introed [sic] y’all 3yrs ago … love was truly in the air! Now yall gon be booed up for forever!!” she wrote in the caption.
Per People, Normani and Metcalf were first spotted together in 2022 at Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica. The following year, the Dopamine singer hard-launched their relationship with a (since-deleted) photo of the footballer kissing her on the cheek. Congratulations to the lovebirds. Here’s hoping Ciara and Wilson will use their special powers to unite more future fiancées.
