Since returning from their 11-minute flight into outer space, the women of Blue Origin’s “Taking Up Space” crew have been busy defending their expensive field trip. Chief among the pro-sending-celebs-to-space advocates is Katy Perry, who used her time in zero gravity to drop a set list for her then-upcoming Lifetimes tour in the form of a tiny paper butterfly. On Tuesday, Perry seemingly doubled down on the decision to launch herself briefly off the planet. Responding to a fan page’s Instagram post — which showed a billboard congratulating Perry on the official start of her tour — she thanked the KatyCats for standing by her through it all in a nearly 300-word comment.
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” she wrote.
“I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall,” she continued. “But … I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS ♥️”

Though Perry didn’t specify who was responsible for making her feel like a “human Piñata,” the past few weeks have not exactly been kind to her. After the Blue Origin fiasco, Perry kicked her Lifetimes tour off in Mexico City, and footage of her onstage had TikTok users comparing her choreography to a “school talent show.” At least she has the KatyCats’ unwavering support: “Today, we wanted to remind her that she is never alone; our love for her is boundless, unwavering, and eternal,” one fan account wrote on Instagram.
As one member of the “unhinged and unhealed” internet, I can’t wait to see what level Perry is UNLOCKing next. I hope it will be earthbound?
