After a bit of a hiatus, Donald Glover returned to the stage this weekend at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw music festival on Saturday. During his performance, he revealed that he suffered a stroke last year that caused him to cancel his New World Tour.
“You guys voted for a ‘where have I been monologue,’” the rapper said on stage, according to clips shared on social media. “I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.’” He also revealed he had broken his foot and that doctors had “found a hole” in his heart, leading to two surgeries.
In September 2024, Glover announced he was postponing his tour due to his health struggles. “Hey everyone. Unfortunately I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks,” he wrote on X, according to People. He later revealed that after undergoing surgery, he needed “time out to heal” and ended up canceling the rest of his tour dates.

Last July, he announced that he would be retiring his musical alter ego, Childish Gambino. “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done,’” he told the New York Times. “It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.”
“They say everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realize you have one,” Glover said on Saturday. “You got one life, guys, and I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing.”
