On Tuesday, Dolly Parton’s sister, Freida Parton, released a vague but concerning statement on Facebook letting everyone know she was “up all night praying for my sister, Dolly,” who’d announced a week earlier that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency due to what she described as “health challenges.” A few hours after her first post, Freida quickly backtracked, and for good measure, Dolly herself released a new Instagram video on Wednesday to let the public know that she is, in fact, alive and well.
“Well, today’s October the 8th and obviously, I’m here,” Dolly said in the video while gesturing around at a set and also the world at large. “Before I get started, I wanted to say I know lately everybody thinks I am sick,” she continued. “Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here.” And she absolutely appears to be, all dressed up sitting on a barstool with a microphone above her head.

Parton said her time off came about because she didn’t take good care of herself when her late husband, Carl Dean, was sick. (In mid-September, she told Dollywood crowds via video that she’d been dealing with a kidney stone, which Freida explained was the source of her health issues.) Now, Parton says, she’s back and better than ever. “I wanted you to know that I’m not dying,” she said, in case the message wasn’t clear.

Apparently, a week was all Dolly needed to get back to her nine-to-five. In her new video, Parton says she’s been busy working on “some commercials for the Grand Ole Opry.” Besides that, she wants it known that Reba McEntire will not be by her side when she’s dying. “Did you see that AI picture of Reba and me? Oh, lordy,” she said. “If I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my deathbed.” Good to know.
Parton ended her video message by saying she’s not ready to die yet. “I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working,” she said. Yeehaw.
