It’s not often that Bravo lets any of its universe go quietly into the night, let alone one of its longest-lasting Housewives series. But, as of Friday, The Real Housewives of New York City is going off-air with no plans of returning, according to “Page Six.” Per its reporting, “An insider said that execs do expect RHONY to return at some point and in some form, but certainly not with all of its current cast.”
The show premiered in its original form in 2008 as the spinoff of The Real Housewives of Orange County. It became one of the most talked-about series on the network. (It gave us Aviva Drescher’s prosthetic-leg throw.) The first cast of the series also included many of Bravo’s blueprint stars, including Bethenny Frankel, Luann de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, and Dorinda Medley. RHONY was allegedly roiled by conflict among its cast after season 13, and the series as we knew it ended in early 2023.

Later that year, Bravo announced RHONY’s return with a whole new set of New Yorkers in tow: Jenna Lyons, Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jessel Taank, and Brynn Whitfield. After only two seasons with these new Housewives, we’re calling it quits.
Outside of Lyons, whose closet provided the most engaging scenes and who seemed equal parts bemused and alarmed throughout, the reboot wasn’t met with much enthusiasm. As Hell Gate’s Housewives critic Katie Way wrote of the last season, “When did a Housewives show start requiring so much homework to be entertaining? I personally gave up after a single season, but my coworker described the last season as a snoozefest. (She also proceeded to tell me that the finale was one of the darker things she’d ever seen on reality TV.)”
What’s next for the New York–based Bravo stars is uncertain. Will we spot any cameos on Bravo’s newest New York series, Next Gen NYC? I could see Lyons taking Brooks Marks out to lunch.
