Britney Spears was aboard a private flight from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to Los Angeles, California on May 22 when she allegedly lit up a cigarette mid-air. According to People, Spears put it out once flight attendants asked her to. Smoking cigarettes goes against federal aviation regulations, and the flight attendants apparently called authorities who met her once she landed at the airport. They let her off her a warning, and she was free to go.
On May 24, Spears addressed the incident on Instagram and shared footage of herself aboard a plane, saying she was unaware she couldn’t smoke on it. “Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat !!!” she wrote. She also claimed that it was her first time drinking vodka. “I swear I felt so SMART 🙄🙄🤔😂😂😂😂 !!! I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!! And said I want a cigarette so bad !!!” she added.

“My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!” she said. “The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much but she didn’t like me the moment I got on plane !!!”

Spears said she was sorry, writing, “I do so apologize to anyone I offended but the flight attendants always make sure I’m way at the back of [the] plane anyways.” Maybe this will make it into the Britney biopic?
