The flames of Fyre Fest 2.0 might have been extinguished for good. After the festival was reportedly postponed just one month out from its start date, Billy McFarland announced that he’s putting his baby up for sale. “Fyre is one of the most powerful attention engines in the world,” he wrote in a statement on Instagram. “This brand is bigger than any one person and bigger than what I’m able to lead on my own. It’s a movement … It’s clear that I need to step back and allow a new team to move forward independently.”
“We have decided the best way to accomplish our goals is to sell the Fyre Festival brand, including its trademarks, IP, digital assets, media reach, and cultural capital, to an operator that can fully realize its vision,” McFarland continued.

The statement goes on to vaguely acknowledge the “challenges” the festival faced in Mexico (namely, Mexican officials refusing to host Fyre Fest 2.0), where it was originally slated to take place at the end of May. McFarland also mentioned that “several Caribbean destinations” had expressed interest in hosting the festival, though if that were true, surely he wouldn’t be exploring a sale.
Oh, and speaking of sales, did you know you can put in a bid on Fyre 2 right now? The company’s website includes a section where you can submit an offer to buy a festival that has failed to come to fruition not once, but twice. Sounds like a great deal to me. Any takers? Anyone at all?
