It seems there are at least a few people in Austin Butler’s life who survived his long bout of Method acting. One of them, apparently, is Ashley Tisdale. On Thursday, the High School Musical actress posted several photos of Butler to her Instagram Story, one of which included an image of their matching Birkenstocks. “Got my espresso machine and got @austinbutler to be my barista,” Tisdale wrote in a second Story, tagging the espresso-machine brand La Marzocco. (If you’re curious, I’m fairly certain this $4,200 machine is the one she has.) “My personal barista teaching me how to make lattes,” she wrote over yet another photo of Butler making coffee.

Butler and Tisdale have been friends for nearly two decades — even before Butler’s nine-year relationship with Tisdale’s High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens. Per Us Weekly, the duo got close in 2009 when they co-starred in the movie Aliens in the Attic, and they reunited onscreen two years later for Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure.
Not only does Butler make espresso for Tisdale, he apparently loves hanging out with her daughter, Jupiter, too. “He has always taken the time, which I think is like the most important thing to me, to FaceTime to be a part of her life in ways,” she told Us Weekly in 2023. I guess that answers Nora Ephron’s age-old question: Men and women really can be just friends. And baristas.
