Say what you will, but I know I become really vulnerable anytime a possible new lesbian relationship arises in the Zeitgeist. Add in an age gap and the potential crowning of a new (to me) gay person, and I am frothing at the mouth. When speculation arose that maybe something romantic was happening with singer King Princess and legendary actor Christine Baranski, I was on the case right away.
On Wednesday, King Princess posted two photos with Baranski on Instagram and captioned them #loveislove. The images were pulled straight from Getty, watermark and all. The first showed the two holding hands on the street of New York and the next, Baranski embracing King Princess. Hmmm! As one tweet said, “What the heck is going on with king princess and christine baranski??? like im into it obviously but also im dying to know.”

It turns out that Baranski and King Princess, who co-starred on season two of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, are just really, really good friends. (I’ve heard that one somewhere before, but I digress.) They’re baiting us because they know they can: In May, the two chatted for Interview, and when King Princess warned Baranski to “be careful … because people will talk” about their close friendship, Baranski answered, “Our first date — let’s give them something to talk about — we actually got dressed up and finally had dinner.”

In response to King Princess’s light trolling on Instagram, other topics discussed in the comments allude to the movie Carol and compare the duo to Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor, who have the most aspirational lesbian age-gap relationship of all time. For now, that title remains theirs alone — though this is a cute-seeming intergenerational friendship.
