For months now, parents and teachers have been plagued by a baffling scourge: Tweens gleefully shouting “six-seven,” a sort of verbal meme that basically means nothing but has taken over as a mass inside joke in classrooms across the country. If you think that sounds stupid, that’s kind of the point — adults are not supposed to understand “six-seven.”
But now, a lot of us do. In the past few weeks, “six-seven” has become so pervasive that the over-15 population has managed to figure out what it means (again, nothing) and get in on the joke. Naturally, this has immediately rendered “six-seven” lame.
The final nail in the coffin: A brave assortment of parents and teachers are dressing up as “six-seven” for Halloween. I am not a tween, but I was once, and I can’t imagine anything more mortifying than my parents DIY-ing costumes about something I thought was cool less than a week ago. At least the adults are having a blast:
@vmacagee 6 – 7 costumes. Yes, the students thought we were cringe. Yes, we enjoyed making them feel that way. #teachersoftiktok #67 #halloweendiy
@taylor.villalobos seriously, we can’t get rid of the 6-7 epidemic in 4th grade!! 🤦🏼♀️ but, we had the BESTTT time surprising our kids!! such a fun and easy way to earn some “cool teacher” points 🤪 @Julie Coggin #teacherlife #teachersoftiktok #sixseven #67 #fyp
@kristen__ann Twin day, but add a little brain rot… (Should I post the bloopers? 🤣) #teacher #teachersoftiktok #ootd #brainrot #67

Thank you to these visionaries for finally putting “six-seven” to bed by making it deeply uncool. Sometimes, cringe can be the most powerful weapon of them all.
