On Monday, Doechii made her Met Gala debut after emerging from the Mark Hotel inside a mysterious box. Though it wasn’t immediately clear who was in the rolling enclosure, a TikTok later surfaced confirming it was the Swamp Princess herself.
But that TikTok — which showed Doechii getting out of an elevator before disappearing inside the contraption — set off quite a bit of backlash online, with people taking issue with the rapper’s treatment of her team. In the video, Doechii can be heard yelling for her team to cover her with more umbrellas so as not to be seen by the paparazzi waiting outside the hotel.

“Give me another umbrella, now! And another one. I need more fucking umbrellas!” the artist can be heard saying as members of her team hurry to cover the enclosure’s open top with umbrellas. Commenters on the TikTok slammed Doechii for her “attitude,” calling her “rude” for “yelling like that” at her staff.
On Wednesday, Doechii responded to the controversy. She posted a TikTok where she backs away from the camera with her hands raised to the tune of “Easy,” by the Commodores. “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,” read the caption.
“All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside),” she added in the caption.

Fans in the comments on Doechii’s video seemed pretty forgiving, saying people are “so pressed about all the wrong things” and calling the backlash “so forced.”
“She has a whole song called ‘Anxiety,’” one person wrote, “And y’all thought she was gonna be cool, calm, and collected in a stressful environment?”
