Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role on The Cosby Show, has died. According to People, Warner drowned while on a family vacation in Costa Rica. He was 54.
Warner was swimming on Sunday afternoon at Playa Grande de Cocles in Limón Province when a current pulled him into deeper waters, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department said.
The Emmy-nominated actor and director played Bill Cosby’s son, Theo, on The Cosby Show from 1984 to 1992. He went on to lead the sitcom Malcolm & Eddie and starred in Reed Between the Lines, The Resident, Suits, and more. His latest venture was a podcast launched in June called Not All Hood, which he co-hosted with Weusi Baraka and Candace Kelley.
Warner was also a musician and poet. In 2015, he won a Grammy for best traditional R&B performance for his part in a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children of America.” He is survived by his wife and daughter.
