A group of California conservatives is hoping to turn Disneyland into the MAGA-est place on earth. 805 Patriots, a group named for the area code of California’s central coast, has announced its plans for a “MAGA invasion” of Disneyland this February. I seem to recall a different MAGA invasion that sent a lot of people to federal prison, but this one will apparently feature less breaking and entering.
“Give your family a chance to experience Disney on a day with as many like minded patriots [as] possible,” reads a Facebook post announcing the event. To attend, these patriots have to both buy their own ticket to Disneyland ($169) and purchase a special piece of “Patriots in the Park” merch ($20–$50) from 805 Patriots to receive the day’s agenda. The shirts and hoodies feature “a bold silhouette of a Revolutionary War patriot waving the Betsy Ross flag in front of a reimagined Disney castle” and the “powerful” phrase “Make Disney Great Again.” Organizers also asked that attendees wear a red MAGA hat to the park.
The group promises that the unsanctioned and unofficial event will be “a patriotic day of fun, freedom, and family values.” In the comments of their Facebook post, the organizers explained how they settled on Disney. “We had a pole [sic] up on Instagram with our 32k followers for a MAGA Invasion of an Amusement park with Universal, Knotts, Six Flags & Disneyland and Disneyland won with a few thousand votes,” they wrote. “This is to give a chance [to] families to experience Disneyland at least once with as [many] like minded patriots as possible and trigger some liberals!”

I don’t really want to help these guys out, but Disneyland is not exactly a slam-dunk place to trigger the libs. There are always people in MAGA hats at Disney parks, and it’s not going to offend the delicate sensibilities of a Gavin Newsom voter to see a merch-wearing Republican in a spinning teacup. Have they considered bringing their MAGA-invasion concept to a place where it would actually be shocking? I’m thinking an afternoon screening of Sentimental Value or any East L.A. coffee shop with specialty cold foams. It’s harder to make a T-shirt for that, though.
