Melania Trump’s documentary, Melania, hits theaters this weekend. Do you have your tickets yet? If not, don’t worry; there are plenty left. Despite what President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post on Monday, theaters across the country do not seem to be “Selling out, FAST!” The box-office predictions are low and, based on screenshots circulating on social media, local screenings are far from full. It turns out that people aren’t clamoring to spend 104 minutes with one of our nation’s least charismatic women while her husband’s administration is executing a reign of terror in Minneapolis. Who knew?
According to Variety, Melania is projected to earn $3 million to $5 million. If this were, say, a small documentary about an aging violinist playing his last symphony, those numbers would be amazing. However, this is no small documentary. Amazon paid $40 million to acquire the film, spent a reported $35 million on marketing, and is opening it in 1,500 theaters domestically. By those metrics, this is a catastrophe.
On X, people have been delighting in posting screenshots showing practically empty screenings.

Of course, there are some people who want to see this movie. The 7:35 p.m. showing this Friday at the Regal nearest to Mar-a-Lago is almost sold out, as are screenings in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Plano, Texas. Despite its sure-to-be-poor box-office performance, Melania is still the hottest movie in town for true patriots who have already seen The Housemaid.
