The results are in. A candidate has won. We finally know who has been chosen to lead us into a brighter tomorrow. Of course, I am talking about People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” who was announced Monday night as Jonathan Bailey. Bailey — star of Wicked and Bridgerton and parasocial boyfriend of theater kids everywhere — is the first openly gay man to hold the title. After a rather polarizing choice with last year’s John Krasinski, People seems quite confident its pick will go over well. The magazine even wrote “we know, we nailed it” in the headline. Bailey called the title both “a huge honor” and “completely absurd.”
Naturally, the polycule known as the Wicked cast is thrilled at the selection of one of their own — they celebrated the news with a video congratulating Bailey, in which they all wore T-shirts featuring some very ab-forward photos of him. “He’s the sexiest man not only on this planet, but in the solar system, in the universe, in any multiverse,” Jeff Goldblum said, showing off a tee with a shirtless Bailey hugging his dog, Benson. Bowen Yang praised his co-star for looking “best in a singlet while doing gymnastics,” while wearing a shirt that shows, well, exactly that. Ariana Grande called him the “kindest and the most brilliant and beautiful inside as well,” while Cynthia Erivo said that now “the world knows what I’ve known all along.”

Congrats to Jonathan Bailey on the very well-deserved honor. We look forward to watching him croon Wicked’s horniest song, “As Long As You’re Mine,” in theaters later this month.
