But perhaps most crucially, a young Disney+ upstart releases an ode to crying in the car. “Drivers license,” Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single, became a No. 1 Billboard hit, and in the song, Rodrigo seemingly opened up about her breakup with her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Joshua Bassett, who was rumored to have moved on with fellow Disney darling turned musician Sabrina Carpenter (see lyrics: “that blonde girl who always made me doubt”). Carpenter hit back in her own song, “Skin,” singing, “Maybe you didn’t mean it / Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme.”
Now, it’s been a few years since the Disney Channel love triangle heard ’round the world, and both Carpenter and Rodrigo have gone on to become some of the biggest pop stars of the moment. They haven’t addressed their alleged beef in a long time despite frequently crossing paths, leaving fans to wonder about the current state of their relationship. But in an interview with Rolling Stone that came out Thursday, Carpenter suggested she’s long been over it. “I don’t think about it, ever,” Carpenter said, when asked how often she thinks about this time in her life.

The fallout from the drama “wasn’t going to stop me from doing what I loved,” Carpenter told Rolling Stone. “What that era taught me was to just trust myself, and trust that everything is going to work out the way it’s supposed to, and trust that relationships are put into your life for a reason. You might not see that in the moment, but you see it later.”
So, can we put this saga to bed? It certainly seems that way. Not to mention, this all comes after Carpenter and Rodrigo were spotted hugging at the Grammys in February. Maybe it’s time they work it out on the remix.
