It looks like we won’t be getting another Obama in the White House anytime soon. Michelle Obama went on Kylie Kelce’s podcast, Not Gonna Lie, and confirmed that she’s never, ever going to run for president or any other political position, for that matter. Not only does she just not want to, but she also wants to protect her daughters, Sasha and Malia, from the public eye.
“When people ask me, would I ever run? The answer is no,” the former First Lady said. “If you ask me that, then you have absolutely no idea the sacrifice that your kids make when your parents are in that role. Not only am I not interested in politics in that way, but the thought of putting my girls back into that spotlight when they are just now establishing themselves… I think we’ve done enough.” Somewhere, Barron Trump is punching the air.
Her declaration does make sense, I suppose. She’s been distancing herself from the political sphere post-election and missed a handful of events this year including Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Trump’s inauguration, which I don’t blame her for skipping. It’s probably more fun recording her new podcast and knitting cute halter tops than becoming the leader of the free world, anyway.
